At only 23 years old, "Mixtape Mechanic" Rapid Ric is already Texas' finest mixtape DJ and a rising young entrepreneur. Texas is hot on Atlanta's heels as the next big thing in Southern hip-hop music, and Rapid Ric mans the pipeline of the Lone Star State's top talent.
Rapid Ric has personal relationships with all of Texas' rising independent stars, working and performing alongside Bun B of UGK, Scarface, Too Short, Ying Yang Twins, Youngbloods, David Banner, Lil' Flip, Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Chamillionaire. Everybody who's anybody on the Texas rap map appears on his Rapid Ric Mix CD's, from "Austin Powers" to "Texas Powers" and beyond. His latest Mix CD, "Whut It Dew" features every hot independent act in the South, and is hosted by regional Chamillionaire, fromer Swisha House member and the newest addition to Universal Records' southern rap family. His next cd, which is set to be out by this year's SXSW Festival, is to be hosted by Killa Kyeleon of Slim Thug and Pharrel's Boss Hogg OUtlawz and by UGK rap member Bun-B South Texas native and UT-Austin graduate Ric Almeda has been DJ'ing since 14. His older cousin was the only person with turntables in his hometown of Del Rio, Texas. The art of DJ'ing, along with movies like Wild Style and Juice, led Ric's million-dollar hands to music as both a career and his destiny. By 18 Rapid Ric had qualified for regional battles. By 19, he'd scored an internship with Austin's first commercial urban station KQBT "The Beat" 104.3 FM. In the past couple of years, he's become house dj of Austin's hottest rap club End Up and a regular mixer on Austin's Emmis-owned KDHT "Hot" 93.3 FM, along with the legendary DJ Baby G. Ric has teamed up with Play and Skillz to drop a fully produced Texas rap album later this year and was named the first member of Justo Best Southern Mixtape DJ O.G. Ron C's All-Stars. Most importantly, Rapid Ric's live club/radio mixing and Mix CD's are buzzing like new clippers in the South's biggest state. All the way from Austin, Texas, Ric's buzz is growing as his product appears on heavyweight outlets like mixunit.com, mixtapeusa.com, bestmixtapes, com, and thescrewshop.com |
