Tift Merritt's sophmore release Tambourine (Lost Highway) was nominated for the Grammy for Best Country Album. Tambourine is the follow up to Merritt's critically acclaimed 2002 Lost Highway debut Bramble Rose, which Time magazine's Chris Farley chose as #6 in their "Best of 2002". The New Yorker included Bramble Rose as one of their favorites of 2002, and The Associated Press said of the album, "There isn't going to be a better debut album this year...in any genre." Tambourine has scored high critical praise from such publications as Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, SPIN, Esquire, The New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, NY Daily News, Tracks and Harp magazine; to name a few. On tour, Merritt has received raved reviews. The Hartford Courant said "By the time she closed her set with the one two punch of the roadhouse rocker "I Am Your Tambourine," and the gospel flavored "Shadow in the Way," the petite blonde was on fire. Tift Merritt won't be playing tiny clubs like the Iron Horse for long."
