Named after the Skip James’s piano-led ‘22-20 Blues’, Martin Trimble (21 , vocals / guitar) and Glen Bartup (21, bass) played the blues scene as a duo backed by session drummers, until James Irving (20, drums) joined and 22-20s formed. The band’s debut album, ‘22-20s’ (out April 19th) is on fire with purity of purpose: to make a record that would do justice to Martin’s songs, and convey the rawness of the interplay between himself, Glen, James and Charly Coombes (24, keyboards) who joined as a full-time member during recording. ‘Devil In Me’, ‘Such A Fool ‘, and the dark, thunderous ‘Shoot Your Gun’ show a group approaching the raw materials of classic rock ‘n’ roll – love, lust, frustration – and making them their own.
