Bottle Rockets
The Bottle Rockets formed in 1993 and quickly rose to prominence in the field of "Americana/Alternative Country" music by creating uniquely crafted songs about "everyday life." Their songs have been embraced by critics and fans alike over the years. The "heavy" guitar sounds and legendary, raucous live shows of the early years of the band--although great in their own special way--seemed to direct a lot of people's attention away from the band's true strongpoint and intended point of focus, which is songwriting. "The Greatest Bar Band in America," as they were called by the press early in their career, although intended as a compliment, actually led to many misconceptions about the band. Oftentimes inaccurately labeled as simply a "loud good-time/party" band, the Bottle Rockets are, and always have been, a band of multiple singer/songwriters--"folk-style" singer/songwriters raised on rock music. It's a totally unique combination, and one that is easily misunderstood, yet easily enjoyed if you're willing to take the time to listen deeper than the surface, which can run anywhere from straight country to hard rock. To think of the Bottle Rockets as "John Prine and Crazy Horse" would certainly put you in the ballpark, but that's still not entirely accurate. They are a truly unique band. Ten years down the road, the Bottle Rockets are still doing what they've always done, which is, releasing albums full of great songs.
