Stan Ridgway is an American music original. From his early days with L.A. art-punkers Wall Of Voodoo to his even more intriguing solo career, Ridgway has created a considerable body of work. Editorial review: Snakebite [A] ...glorious, hardboiled Hollywood road movie for the ears, which takes the listener on a tumbleweed journey in three acts through his dark imagination. - The Wire Stan Ridgway doesn't easily fit into any preordained pop categories. Wall of Voodoo, his original band, was almost rock, but even back in the day its electronic textures, spaghetti Western twang, and skewed world vision set it apart from your average pop outfit. Now Stan is solo, and touring to support his new Snakebite CD, a of collection of mutant blues, moody jazz, and arrhythmic rock delivered in his usual guttural croak to complement his usual dark humor. Snakebite: Blacktop Ballads & Fugitive Songs, 16 two fisted taless that contemplate aging, losing and scufflng through the kinds of landscapes you'd expect in John Huston movies and Raymond Chandler novels. With the new wave heyday of "Mexican Radio" a distant memory (glimpsed briefly in "Talkin' Wall of Voodoo Blues, Pt. 1"), Ridgway remains a vanguard lyricist and compellingly dark singer. http://www.stanridgway.com |
