Offline Geekiness
Some people say "you can't take it with you", but they must not be talking about complete SXSW schedules for Film, Interactive and Music. Here are a few tools developed to help you stay on top of what's happening at SXSW 2005 without having to be chained to your computer.
SXSW Schedule on your iPod®
Brand new for 2005, SXSW, in conjunction with CitizenPod proudly presents what may well be one of the geekiest (and coolest) things we've launched yet...Fest4Pod. It's so new and different than our usual offererings that fest4Pod has its own web page with detailed instructions.
SXSW Schedule Hotline
Also new for 2005, SXSW has produced the SXSW 2005 Schedule Hotline. Forget exactly when that 'can't miss' Japanese band you heard on your iPod® was playing? Give the toll-free Hotline a call at (866) 713-SXSW (that's 7979) and search by club or band name. Our lovely robotic receptionist will look them up for you and tell you when and where they're playing.
SXSW on your PDA
The SXSW PDA Schedule, is like an entire program book that you can carry around on your Palm® Powered PDA or smartphone. It lists every band, film, and conference session in an easy to read display, with the ability to view by time or venue, to get details on events, and to make your own personalized list of activities. The SXSW PDA Schedule is Presented by Ask Jeeves
iPod® and iCal® are registered trademarks of Apple Computers
PalmOS® is a registerd trademark of Palm Computing
Online Geekiness
For those of us for whom the computer is an appendage not easily removed, here are some tools to help plan your 2005 SXSW activities (or overwhelm you with the myriad of choices). All without leaving the comfort of your keyboard.
SXSW Calendar
SXSW can seem overloaded with choices of things to see, do and hear, especially for first-timers. Take charge of your time, using the SXSW Calendar feature to mark the things you want to do. On all band showcase, film screening, detailed panel and special event pages, use the convenient "Add this to your SXSW Calendar" links to add selected events to your preferred calendar program. Then simply synchronize the calendar with your organizer for automatic updates.
SXSW Community Blog
The Smaller Stories Interactive Community Blog exists as a place to discuss specific panels and events, rant about tech-related issues, wax philosophic, hookup with friends, talk about what you had for breakfast...you get the idea. We need YOU to guide and develop this space according to your innermost needs and desires. Because everyone has a story to share - and often the 'smaller' ones are the most meaningful. Thanks to our friends at Inknoise for pulling this together for us again this year!
SXSW Forums
If you haven't yet taken some time to browse the SXSW Forums (which have been active since the beginning of the 2005 SXSW season), please take a few moments to check it out. You might stumble on some things you didn't know about SXSW. This is the place to ask questions that aren't answered elsewhere on sxsw.com, and search for answers to questions which may have already been asked.
SXSW IRC Chat
Chat with others who are attending SXSW... and fill those wish they were and are living vicariously through the eyes of the former group with stories of your exploits. Mostly SXSW Interactive Festival attendees take advantage of this feature... but feel free to stop in, whoever you are, and help take the discussions to a new level. Point your irc client at irc.slacker.com channel #sxsw.
