TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT FILM COMPETITION
To support and cultivate the next generation of filmmakers, the SXSW Film Conference and Festival (SXSW Film) inagurates a special Film Competition for students enrolled in Texas high schools.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of independent filmmakers and industry figures; with prizes, including SXSW Film registrations and scholarship money, awarded for first, second, and third place. All films chosen as finalists will be shown in a special program as part of the regular 2005 Film Festival schedule.
In conjunction with our high school student competition and Austin's Center for Young Cinema (CYC), the SXSW 2005 Film Conference will feature special, limited programming specifically for high school students. These programs, which will be separate from our regular SXSW panels and workshops, will be open to all students who enter the our competition. (Students wishing to attend all SXSW Conference events can purchase a discounted Student Registration.) A special program of CYC-produced films (not eligible for competition) will be screened during the SXSW 2005 Film Festival with filmmakers in attendance to talk about their films and CYC.
Additional support and information to assist students in producing their films is available at the 4empowerment site , including links to resources for student filmmakers, and a discussion forum for students to engage in dialogue on film. Students can also post their submitted films at the 4empowerment site.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
• Eligibility is limited to Texas students enrolled in the 9th through 12th grades for the full 2004-05 academic year.
• Films must be 5 minutes or shorter and completed between January- December 2004.
• Films must be submitted on DVD or VHS video. If your film is selected as a finalist, we will work with you to ensure the best screening format.
• All entry forms must be signed by a film, media or English teacher or a school Guidance Counselor.
• There is a special, discounted $10 fee (payable by check or money order) for the Texas High School Student Competition only.
• Postmark deadline for submissions is December 15, 2004.
• Completed entry forms should be mailed, along with a check or money order for the $10 entry fee, and your DVD/video to:
